Elm Tree Removal and Pruning Regulations

Special rules apply to elm trees in Edmonton to prevent the spread of Dutch Elm Disease:

Elm trees can be removed at any time, but stumps must be ground or trees properly debarked to prevent elm bark beetles from spreading disease

Pruning elm trees is only allowed between October 1 and March 31, when beetles are dormant, in compliance with both City of Edmonton bylaws and provincial pruning bans
